Re: Switching to Linux for the first time!
Adding that to my list of "Reasons why you should use cheap SAS drives", it requires you buying a (cheap) HBA that won't give you trouble if you throw a pile of drives at it. (Editor's Note: I've only ran drives through shelves, which while annoying at times will get you 12-24 drives connected via a ...

Re: Switching to Linux for the first time!
I've still been hearing recent horror stories with BTRFS. I would very much like a modern COW filesystem on Linux without the hoops of ZFS but it seems like it's not here yet.
I'm not entirely sold on needing ECC for ZFS, I've heard the argument made both ways. But I got lucky and the old office ...

Re: Switching to Linux for the first time!
Man, last time I used KDEnlive was... probably 15 years or so ago? It kept crashing constantly when a load was placed on it, which I guess was a common complaint at the time. Is it still like that these days?
No idea but I've not heard bad things. It seems worth trying.

so one thing I kinda sorta regret what I did during my installation of Bazzite is checking both of my SSDs in my computer at the same time here

because that caused it to basically view both SSDs as one in the Dolphin file manager, and for some reason it still shows ...

Re: Compute Challenge: Underclock* Your CPU
Ok, sounds interesting. My own computer, which runs a Linux distro called Tuxedo OS, has a pretty good tool for that actually. Didn't use the default low power profile because the fan profiles that come with it are not that good (has a tendency to often switch between low and high fan speed), but ...

Davinci Resolve is functionally fucking useless since it has no h264 support on Linux.
I'm always amazed at people still making a fuss about h264 licensing in 2025. I think almost all of the patents are expired at this point, are people actually still going out throwing sueballs if you package ...

Re: Crazy Taxi - Post your scores!
I got a 15k but I'm calling it "map assisted" for the moment since I did it while pausing between stops to check the map. I guess that could be allowed since this map is for the dreamcast version and there's no reason not to pause, I suppose. But until others weigh in I'll not call that an "official ...

I don't recall having any slowdown.
I'll see about recording next time I do runs. It's not subtle at all when it happens lol.

Re: Tetris
Tetrio with TGM sounds is what I prefer, or just Tetris DS. Or The New Tetris, which is actually amazing. I love the aesthetic of TGM but I don't enjoy trying to learn it, I grew up with infinite spin and such and TGM feels like walking in mud.

DJ mixes are great, they're the "intended" way to listen to a lot of dance music and also a great way to use human curation to find new music.

What features are you looking for from image gallery software specifically over, say, just browsing the folder structure over a network mount and using a local image viewer?

The DS never supported WPA wifi
I thought some games did, like it was a software specific implementation rather than a hardware or OS limitation? Let me go look that up.

I'm not sure about pricing now but a year or two ago you could still get japanese model DSis for like, $20-40 shipped. DSis can be softmodded very easily and you can load games off of an SD card. And the DSi has clicky buttons, like the original DS, unlike the DS lite.

Yeah I definitely want to play newer-era games too, not just emulators. VRChat is like, unplayable on my current machine and I'd really like to go to virtual cons and not get left out :P 3d graphic games are a real issue in general
