Re: gaming on Linux

question:

what controller (if you use one) do y'all prefer when playing games?
I kinda swap between the Xbox Series X controller and the Dualshock 4 controller. the Xbox controller largely because more games just come with its button labels, but I kinda feel like the Dualshock feels a bit better ...

Re: Linux General Thread

I haven't tried out many games in Linux yet, since I simply haven't had the time, but I might just stick to Steam games for now. Most of them seem to boil down to "run it through Proton Experimental, if that doesn't work try a different version".

Yeah, that's basically how Steam games have ...

Re: Linux General Thread

so yesterday, out of boredom, I decided to give Linux Mint a try on my small mini-computer that I still had lying around.

photo_2025-08-22_01-26-05.jpg

and not gonna lie, I think I already kinda prefer Cinnamon over KDE Plasma (which is what I went with on my bazzite installation on my big ...

on one hand, I kinda wanna make a Monster Hunter thread, but on the other hand, I only really got into the series with MonHun Wilds and Stories 2, so I dunno if I would be the best person to start the thread.

Re: Linux General Thread

I reinstalled bazzite entirely, but we also had to do some advanced shenanigans with the Blivet-GUI during the OS installation, because both drives were, like, combined into one RAID1 thing.

Weird! Did it explicitly say it was doing that or just, do it?

It basically said "the selected ...

so one thing I kinda sorta regret what I did during my installation of Bazzite is checking both of my SSDs in my computer at the same time here

Re: Emulation Megathread

Yeah I do not think I am gonna touch story mode with THIS device because of the aforementioned stick issues.
They are hall effect sticks! Just that the software handling them sucks.

Yeah I could install a custom firmware/Gamma OS that fixes them, but I would lose all configs and whatnot, so I ...

Yeah I run it on 50HZ mode, widescreen, 2x upscale.

The only issue is that the 556 has crummy analog stick handling. It has really bad cardinal snapping so the game is even harder lol

Oooooh, gotcha!
Why are you running it in 50 Hz mode, though? Does the thing's screen only go up ...

Last year that happened! I got me an anbernic rg556
It can run ps2! It can run gamecube! Hell, configured it can run fzero gx at 2x upscale pretty decently. Of course, the PAL version but still! Basically full speed.

Was thinking about it just now and it's kinda wild how Prime 4 missed the entire Switch 1 generation, after being announced for it during the console's early days.

ftr, I do not believe that it was originally being developed by Namco Bandai, due to the "source", Liam Robertson, being a ...

so which Pac-Man Championship Edition release is generally considered the best?
because I have access to all three games on Steam (not counting the demake of CE1 that's on Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1), and personally, I feel like I'm kinda vibing more with CE DX+ at the moment?

oh, ngl, I'd be into a well-made Sonic RPG.

Have you played either of the Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon entries that came out in the past few years? Because hot DAMN those are some great Classicvanias (made by some of the original Castlevania dev team, for that matter!). COTM2 might be my favorite of that genre altogether.

While I adore the metroidvania Castlevanias, we're so spoiled for choice and I really miss Classicvanias. Bloodlines for the Mega Drive/Genesis is still my favorite and I like the handling of the classics, where the movement is more deliberate and committal.

I do think I'm in the minority though ...

Re: Castlevania (entire series)

I played through the entirety of Symphony of the Night for the first time through the PS4 version, and it's *really* good, but I feel like the game does drop off a bit in the second half (aka the Inverted Castle). since there's basically no story-stuff happening anymore, and you're just wandering ...
