Toy characters
I wanna see who else has characters that are supposed to be a toy of some sort; plushes, pooltoys, balloons, toy robots, or anything else that's out there that is specifically meant to be a toy.
(art by teochronico)
I've got my sona Maffi who is a solid rubber Care Bear SNES mouse, and she's a big squishy stim toy, meant to provide pleasant sensory stuff. Her ears click when pressed, adding to the stim toy vibe. Often gets confused for a pooltoy by people who don't realize that solid rubber is even an option?
(art by softponies)
Button is a plush skunk taur who works as a tailor, focused on making clothes for body shapes that don't really get the attention they deserve (like taurs, and nonanthro shapes). They also repair plushes.
(art by taeltales)
Cathy is based on the early 2000s toy "Poo-Chi" and is a toy robot dog with a screen in place of eyes that can display whatever she likes as long as it's monochrome. She has translucent green bits that can light up when she's excited, or when her nose is pressed.
I have toy versions of a bunch of my characters but these are the ones that are toys all the time, (or in Maffi's case she's a toy whenever being used to represent me.)

I'm frequently a pooltoy, and my headmate Olive is a plushsuit (which isn't 100% toy, but kinda close!)

Re: Toy characters
Yeah plush suits are pretty similar! Patches on plushes are a really fun form of customizing your form, like a much cuter version of tattoos. I guess that brings up the idea that a smooth surface is a great place to put stickers too.

Re: Toy characters
Oooh we were thinking of starting this exact thread but probably wouldn't have gotten around to it. Nice! Our beloved Trinket is an animate doll and fits.
(Art here is by https://bsky.app/profile/saucymcfuzzy.bsky.social be aware he does NSFW a bunch)
I don't think I've seen many furries who do dolls, but then it was the last of us to really just go "I wanna match the rest of yall" and take animal features. We think of it as a hand-made toy. Being a plush is cute and all but something about rigidity feels more right for it.

Oh I got one of these. So, I'm a Dragon right? but that's kinda... malleable. sometimes I like being other stuff, or just other kinds of dragon.
so! once I was feeling very plushie and in a fit of creative Fuege, drew a new avatar for use on fedi. oh I was also pink at the time, I do that sometimes.

One of my sonas, Kinder Candy Cornykins can be interpreted as either flesh and blood or a plushie, but he looks pretty much the same either way

Also one of my other sonas — Russel the Shuppet/Mimikyu/Mewtwo pokefusion is a scarecrow, which I think would count too!

Re: Toy characters
It's cool to see a lot of variety! Most of the time I just see pooltoys and plushies (though I also understand why they're the most popular) and a lot of people just kinda act like they're the only two options.
Re: Toy characters
Yeah. My raccoon sona is meant to be literally a toy.
An adult toy but a toy still. So I won't be posting the relevant art for that kind of thing.
But yeah, artificial. Made for play. Made for ENJOYMENT. For pleasure and joy.
To be played with is to bring joy.
Lemme just copypaste what I have written on bluesky about it and why I love toy furries.
furries that are toys
windup dolls
action figures
plushes
pooltoys
playthings
*things of joy and pleasure*
I adore all. There is something super sweet about that kind of self representation.
Idealizing self as
a thing for joy, fun, play.
I love that i get to do that as well
I want to see more doll furries
more toy furries.
More lovely playthings, self idealization as a play thing. Fun.

Re: Toy characters
A couple of years ago I wanted to make an inflatable bat sona. Inflatabat. I could not quite execute it. A lot of effort and I was not happy with any of it.
Then after that was done, I pivoted and made a windup automaton hyena. Not quite as "toyetic" since the windup is less "toy" and more "clock"
Automaton, rather than plaything.
Still, that counts and I can share that one.

Okay wait, why have I never seen a wind-up automaton character before? I absolutely LOVE that!Loosf wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 2:42 am Then after that was done, I pivoted and made a windup automaton hyena. Not quite as "toyetic" since the windup is less "toy" and more "clock"
I don't have any toy characters myself, but I have a Pidgey character with a penchant for getting TF'd...

Clockworkfurry/fastenjaw has a bunch and I like them a lot, but they are much more toyetic! They have a plastic winding nub!
Most windup furries have the Big Key on the back, but I decided to go with a clock winding type. I love the big key, and I really like the winding nubs but I felt the *clock* winder type was the right choice for me.

Re: Toy characters
I think my most toy-ish creature thus far is Merry - a dragon who's also a punch balloon!
I like punch balloons, they're fun to stim with. Their colors and star pattern are based on a punch balloon I had once.
Next, I was toying with a concept of a kite bat. Her name is Lei. Although, I do want to try messing with her design more soon...
There is also my beething plushie. Her name is Honeydew. I initially drew her as an one-off creature for a sketch but then she wound up growing on me. Here is she cuddling with an another creature of mine, but they're not a toy (most of the time, anyhow).
I may have a few more to show but I worry that I'm sharing too much. I think three is a pretty good amount?

Re: Toy characters
I have two! One is an alter or whatever of me! The other is a rowdy adopt I got that I developed over time!

I think there's fun about having a western and a eastern dragon toys in near opposite colours too.
DarkOveord is obviously me

but Rigel is the adopt! He's Very Big now!

I also did get a plush comm off Cubi way back when too

Re: Toy characters
OH this looks like the thread for me!

This is Kid Cuisine All-Star Chicken Nugget Meal (Made With All White Meat For A Taste That Can't Be Beat)! We call it Zine for short and Z for shorter. It uses it/wyrm/zap pronouns. It's an oddbody furby! Or a fuzby if the feds are asking. And they do, Zine is like a cryptid in its universe.

It's like some kind of eldritch deity but it's really chill. It shapeshifts, being an oddbody furby, so I like to draw it all kinds of different ways, I wanted a flexible character to really have fun with when I draw, that would also be fun for other people to play around with.

Lore Dump:
I never had any furbies as a kid because my parents were christian. They heard all the furby demon rumors and I guess that was it. I think that's what gravitated me to a furbysona first, I'm afraid I've been kind of an edgelord since high school lmao. But the idea of making a furby that actually IS a powerful eldritch horror but chooses to be friendly and kind anyway was always a fun subversion to me and since making Zine I've all but fallen in love with it as a sona.

My partner also has a couple toybeasts that go with Zine, another furby in the same style and an iDog covered in stickers!
I plan to design more toy/retro themed characters to make up a little Chuck E. Cheese-esque rock band for Zine! I'm basing the first couple off of a few childhood virtual pets, one I adopted from a geocities page (will remember you always, BillyBear4Kids.com), a lupe based on my first neopet, and the last based on a familiar face or two...

EDIT 1: Image fix!
EDIT 2: I think Fritz is being wrongfully flagged, whoops, sorry!

Re: Toy characters
I don't really have a toy OC as such, but that's mainly because I don't really have an OC. I do however enjoy playing with toy and construct characters- here are the more toyish ones!
The first two are from different D&D campaigns, I tend to draw all my TTRPG characters, because I get excited about playing them. The first one was a bunch of clockwork weasels masquerading as... one big clockwork weasel. They were based on a Shardmind archetype, so I wanted a character that could reasonably shatter into pieces and scatter.
There's a lot of different types of weasels, "most of them are generic Do Anything ones, with a smattering of specialised ones like Rewinders (someone has to keep it all running), Gazers (you wouldn't believe how cramped it gets under that face mask), Thinkers (cat herders extraordinaire), Builders (adventuring is dangerous work) and others."
The second is a magical item, an animated carving of a weasel (sensing a theme~) that could perform specific tasks.
Kind of skirting the definition, but hey. This was a MUCK character, a paper golem obsessed with collecting stories. All of his memories were printed on the paper he's made of, and looking at the print would reveal that each letter was itself composed of even tinier print, and reading that print etc etc.
