Dr. Robotnik's Thread Posters - a DRRR Thread

Post by DizzyCrisis »

As soon as I made an account here, I wanted to make a thread for my favorite kart racer and one of the most wrongfully-maligned games in recent years: Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers!
It's a game I'd like to go back to when I find the time, and I'm hoping making a forum thread about it will encourage me to do that, and find some other fans, too.

Firstly, here's a playlist of some of my older times from when I got into the game:
I encourage others to post their time trial times here, especially with videos!

Second, for those who don't know about DRRR, the game can be downloaded for free HERE. Fair warning: this is not an easy kart racer like Mario Kart. The game asks a lot of you and demands some basic competency before you can reasonably challenge CPUs. Do the tutorial!
This world is inhabited by creatures known as Bunnies.

My first experience playing zhis was immediately after its first release: "OK, I'll do zhe tutorial" -> "oh wow, it's amazing! so many mechanics! so much charisma!" -> "oh right, most people just want to accelerate, drift, and use items, making a racing game as mechanically dense as zhis a pretty tough sell" and I set it down to see how it fared in zhe future. "Zhe future" ended up being pretty recently, I did a quick tutorial refresher and cleared ze first Grand Prix. Once you get za hang of it, it's a super fun time -- but it's also very clearly not for everyone, by design. Still admirable, wizhout a doubt.

I unlocked Online Play today, but I'll be putting more time into singleplayer first and probably only pop in alongside a few friends when I'm ready for it. (It'd be neat to make racers for it, zhough...)
