NeoGeo AES A system that no one has heard of

I was wondering if any one else rememberes this venerable console. It is the only console to have perfect NeoGeo MVS ports and is still one of my fav consloes.

I'm not too familiar with the console side of it but I LOVE the Neo Geo. I was actually just playing some Samurai Shodown V Special with a friend earlier today. Even if it meant the console was basically solely for the high end enthusiasts the fact that SNK was selling literally the exact same hardware as the arcade (down to games being the same rom just checking what box it's running on) is super admirable.

I want one so irrationally badly but I absolutely do not have the money or room for it (it's a big-ass console and would not fit in my tv stand which has 1ft^3 cubbies)

Funny enough from what I've seen the strat these days is to get a consolized MVS with the Universal BIOS installed so you can toggle between MVS and AES modes then either use the arcade cartridges or alternatively one of those big multicarts. It's still hella expensive but it's more affordable. Personally I just settled for the Neo Geo Pocket Color being my piece of real SNK hardware. It's not the arcade versions but its still got Neo Turf Masters alongside some nice exclusives.

Yeah, AFAIK consolized MVS is the way to go, the game carts are even bigger though

In any case I'm not presently buying any more retro consoles so I'm going to stick to emulating

Saw one at a point at some random exhibit in a local museum years ago, can't lie I was activated seeing they had Metal Slug 1 on it and I just was so in the zone nearly finishing it in one go there for the hell of it while family was going around; very special memories

I adore the Neo-Geo. I picked up an AES from Japan in 2015, and a couple of the more affordable - okay, less ridiculously expensive - fighters for it. KOF '98 remains an all-time great.

I'm hoping one day to own an arcade cabinet and pick up an MVS to get my Metal Slug fix. And of course Neo Turf Masters, from the same developers, which is just an absolute delight.

Twinkle Star Sprites has a Saturn version, incidentally! It's a really good port.
