I just finished Drown The Stars by Quiana Chase. I saw the author on tiktok shilling it mostly by shitposting about it, the phrase that got me to pick it up was "Space opera about lesbian space fish" and I had that shit downloaded yesterday

Chase did a really wonderful job of getting me invested in a character who is a coward and has no place in royal politicking but is there anyway. Not that she wanted to do the royal politicking regardless, she doesn't get a choice.

The way that Drown The Stars ends made me feel like it was a good place for it to, but then the afterword from Chase made me go "huh there's supposed to be more???" so I'm looking forward to more lesbian space fish

One of the other things that Chase said on tiktok in one of her many marketing videos for it is "Imagine a character who thinks and acts like he's the protagonist in a YA Coming of Age scifi, now imagine having to be in charge of that character's safety. Because he is not the main character, and he doesn't have plot armor."
