Heh, they're calling it "the crossover event of the year!" and I'm inclined to agree.
"Archie vs. Minor Threats" is going to be the next new thing that I start really looking forward to every month when I go to the comic shop. In my view, the matrimony of Archie (literally Archie and Betty and Veronica and friends) and Patton Oswalt's funny little superhero project is so unholy that it's irresistible. It came out of *nowhere*, and when I noticed that Issue Numero Uno was on the shelf, I had to pick it up. The clever bit is that Sabrina the Teenage Witch is the link between these two worlds.
Issue #1 sets the stage well. I appreciate that the art style depicting Archie and his Riverdale pals -- and Riverdale in general -- is noticeably different from that of the Minor Threats gang and the gritty world they live in.
I just love completely unforeseen mashups like this because they're a high-risk, high-reward situation: the chemistry *could* be really great! (But it might not be. Only one way to find out!) To me, it seems promising so far.
