Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 Megathread - NX Gon Give it to Ya!

Following what was probably their most disastrous home console release to date, Nintendo turned that luck around completely with their next console codenamed NX. Later revealed as the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid platform combining their handheld and home console efforts into one single versatile platform. Seen as a console that breathed new life into most former WiiU exclusives (with only a handful of WiiU titles like Star Fox Zero and Kirby & the Rainbow Curse not receiving a port or direct follow up on the following system) which bringing a lot of its own games to the table.
A few noteworthy titles for the Switch include:

• Super Mario Odyssey
• Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom
• Pikmin 4
• Mario Kart 8 DX w/ Booster Course Pack
• Metroid Dread
• Kirby and the Forgotten Land
• Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Recently Nintendo has released its successor, the Switch 2 to some controversy over pricing and anti piracy measures, but to enormous success nonetheless. The new console has a significant boost in power to justify its higher cost and compatibility with most Switch 1 games, even offering upgrade patches for some games to further improve their performance. As of this typing, the Switch 2 is still a very new console with a limited library of exclusives. It's big title for now is Mario Kart World, with Donkey Kong Bananza releasing in less than a week from me posting this.

I figured I'd make one thread for both systems as there are very few Switch 1 games that aren't also playable on Switch 2.

I really want to play Donkey Kong Bananza, but I haven't been able to find a Switch 2 for sale anywhere so it's probably going to take awhile before I can do that. At least by the time I can get one there should be several exciting games to pick from, instead of having to do by playing only Mario Kart.

In the meantime I'm still having a lot of fun with Splatoon 3.

Im mostly excited to try out the free upgrades for Pokemon Scarlet and Mario Odyssey. But the big thing for me without getting into brand new games like Donkey Kong or Kirby Air Ride 2 is the Kirby Forgotten Land expansion in a few months.

I really want to play Donkey Kong Bananza, but I haven't been able to find a Switch 2 for sale anywhere so it's probably going to take awhile before I can do that.

i had a really strange luck which was that my local game store had a pre-order for their second shipment of switch 2's, which would've been 2-3 weeks after launch. but then 2 days after launch i got a text that i could pick up my pre-order because they had so many cancellations and shifted that on to second shipment pre-orders LOL! so i managed to get one even though i wasnt really expecting to for a couple more weeks (and was preoccupied with deltarune anyway)

meanwhile mario kart world wasnt really that interesting enough to keep my interest... so i haven't played with it all that much, but i'm looking forward to bananza!

One of our local Target stores had a stock mistake and actually had like, eight more Switch 2s than they actually thought.

One poor dude changed it in the system to show that they did, in fact, have Switch 2 consoles, and he immediately got mobbed by a bunch of people coming in to get them (me included)

Ended up getting the last one.

I did have a situation where my brother found a whole bunch of Switch 2s at Meijer, asked if I wanted to get one of them, assumed that because there were so many then there must be no demand and it must be easy to just go get one on Amazon, drove away without waiting for an answer, and we have never seen it at a store ever again haha. Maybe I need to keep track of when they restock and try to get in there fast. But also maybe it's ok to wait until it is something where I can just go get one without it being a hassle.

my situation for getting a switch 2 was kinda similar.

walked into a game store about an hour before closing, asked if they had any switch 2s out of curiosity, turned out they had one left that was the mario kart world bundle and said "fuck it" and bought it there and then.

it feels like i've been enjoying it a lot more than my original switch, mainly from seeing all the improvements with the older switch games, regardless if they get an update or not.

that and fantasy life i still keeps on pulling me back because it's so chill.

Funny enough a family member surprised me with a Switch 2 as a late birthday present recently so right now I'm looking up videos on how some of my old Switch 1 games run on it, besides the ones that got dedicated upgrade patches like Pokemon Scarlet. One of the first things I'm noticicing about the system is how incredibly comfortable the new Pro Controller feels in my hand. I can't quite put my finger about it, but there's something really comfy about how it feels in my hands.
Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to trying out the new Donkey Kong game.

omg the new pro controller is really good, i've been vibing with it a lot more than i expected considering i still have a switch 1 pro controller. the fact the d-pad is better is already a selling point but the feel of it is much better and those analog sticks are outstanding

yeah i got a pro 2 controller yesterday along with donkey kong banaza and really liking how it feels! the texture is also so much nicer than the rubbery grips on the original pro controller, and yeah the way the stick has that "frictionless" soft feeling when pushing against the gate is real nice

dont really agree on the d-pad because its still extremely not what i want out of a d-pad haha. i wish they'd put the 3DS XL style d-pads (clicky instead of mushy, extremely clear feeling when you hit a diagonal) on their console controllers...

I played and completed Donkey Kong Bananza and I got to say this is already a very strong contender for my GOTY this year. Loving both the general gameplay and freedom along with the sheer amount of nods to both the Rare and Retro titles. Also those last few stages had me squealing like a kid.

I can confirm with the S2 patch that S/V scares me now, even the bloody lake where it lagged all the time is buttery smooth now

I admit the S2 was a self treat for decent budgeting while my brain was being cheese, and also for Pokémon Z-A later in the year. I got Mario Kart World with it though, that's been fun even if I have opinions about how the minion characters are unlocked

Randomly checked the websites of the various retail stores that have Switch 2 sometimes (which I just kind of did as a casual way to check instead of being really hardcore about tracking restocks and calling stores and stuff) and I was able to find them in stock at my local Best Buy. I bought one and Bananza and I'm gonna have a roommate pick it up today and I'm very excited to finally have a Switch 2!! I was worried that by the time I finally got one everyone would have moved on from Bananza already, but that shouldn't be the case (and I'm sure there will be new people discovering it for the first time for a good while anyway as people slowly do manage to get Switch 2s). And it'll give me some opportunity to go do even more forum stuff because I can go hang out with the DK super fans and share the excitement for a new game hehe.

Over time, my Switch has turned into an EGG Console and Shmup machine.

Despite the extra frame or two of lag consistently applied across games, it's still an amazing system for the game offerings - CAVE ports, Arcade Archives, Toaplan collection, etc. These all work amazingly with the FlipGrip, which allows you to use the switch in a vertical orientation in handheld.

As far as Switch 2 is concerned, I'm just going to wait until the OLED version inevitably comes out.

Just beat Donkey Kong Bananza, and I've gotta say, I've been really enjoying the Switch 2 so far. Feels really good in handheld mode and docked mode both. Joycons are actually nicer to hold than the classic joycons. Haven't gotten the Switch 2 Pro controller yet, but the original Switch Pro still works great.

Managed to nab a Switch 2 pretty recently, got a MicroSD Express, Cyberpunk 2077 + Donkey Kong Bananza plus a few accessories from Savage Raven on the way now. This thing's pretty neat I think.
