Full disclosure: I am the marathon chair and technical lead for BBG. So this is kind of an ad but also I'm 1,000% fine with people having frank discussions about the event; please do let me know what we get right and wrong and such!

Big Bad Game-a-thon is a yearly online speedrun marathon dedicated to bad, silly, and weird games. We focus on the positive aspects of these games and the fun they can be, and discourage negativity and outrage presentations on our stage.

We tend to call ourselves "An entire event of Awful/Silly Block", for people who enjoy GDQ's Awful Blocks.

We don't currently support a charity; we're an event for and by the kusoge fandom community. We're exploring options for this for future events though!

BBG 2025 currently has its submissions open, and will for the rest of the month of July. BBG 2025 itself is September 19-21.

Our website has links to old event VODs, our Twitch channel, the signup form, a link to our Discord (I know, I know), and more info if you're curious about us.

Oooh, this looks like something I'd like to watch. I hope somebody runs Tom & Jerry: the Movie for the Master System.

I don't think we've ever had that one but looking at a video of this... You might have accidentally given me my idea for "I have to submit one run every year, because I have since the beginning"...

I've got... 2.5 weeks to figure it out... it'll be fine...

It's a good speed-running game! Especially because it's built for beating the levels faster than the default duration.

I absolutely adore bad and weird games, so this is very much of interest to me! I also appreciate the discouragement of negativity. Anyone can tear down an awful game - I like to hear people actually point out what they enjoy about it instead.

Gave it a follow on Twitch and BlueSky - I'll be keeping an eye out in September for sure!

I was talking about this on fedi a couple days ago, actually. We have declined submissions in the past because the vibes were wrong. If you're sitting here watching a marathon about kusoge, I have to believe it's because you want to see weird unusual stuff and people enthusiastic about it. Rage streamers are a dime a dozen on Twitch. I want BBG to be uplifting and joyous and fun.

I just think people should be more genuine about stuff. You don't have to prove how cool you are by dunking on everything all the time, and people did try and put in effort to make this stuff (If it's clearly zero-effort we usually decline those submissions because it doesn't fit the vibe).

Exactly how I feel, too! I watch a YouTuber called Dungeon Chill, who plays some very obscure, weird games. But even the ones that probably wouldn't feel great to play, he often ends up focusing on what makes them unique and interesting moreso than what makes them "bad".

It's given me a new appreciation for just... All games in general, honestly.
