ClassiCube – Minecraft Classic replica

(This post is mostly just a crosspost from my blog)

Did you know that there is an old ass replica of an old ass Minecraft version that has only creative mode? And it's well maintained, lightweight and free? With fun additional plugins?
This is ClassiCube. Not only did the devs bring the Minecraft Classic back, but also modernized and optimized it.
Fun fact: they didn't use any of the Mojang's code. It's a code written in C family of programming languages (iirc it's C, C++, C#), completely from scratch. That gives the game the performance so high, that you can run it even on a toaster. If you go to their downloads page, they support these platfroms:
However, the actual interesting part here is multiplayer mode. There are servers that have been running for a very long time. I mean "even those that have started on Minecraft Classic are still there" long. Which means that while the community is very small, it continues to be active and it takes an effort at expanding and enhancing the game mechanics original Minecraft Classic had.
To see what I mean, in this video TheMisterEpic explains both the history of Classicube and shows the gameplay footage that covers also various minigames as well:
Most of the servers run on MCGalaxy, it has a lot of commands and pre-installed minigames that were unique to Minecraft Classic (such as Lava Survival, Zombie Survival, CTF). You may need no additional plugins at all! My only gripe is that their wiki page isn't finished and you have to poke around with the /help command and fail or search the answer on the forums or YouTube videos. That's the fate of all niche things unfortunately.
BUT, to host the server yourself you need almost no resources at all. I run mine on an unused 8gb ram macbook and it's more than enough really. You may need even less ram. If you want to make a public server that will be listed among other servers, you need to either port forward or rent a VPS. However, I myself decided to use tunneling service playit.gg and spent no money and last brain cells since I know literally nothing about servers and don't want to mess shit up. Your server won't be listed though, so this method is good for those who want to host something more private.
Here's how you do this:
Lastly, some cool screenshots from my server! I totally didn't make this post to show off my server I also installed custom models plugin and it's super fun

- macOS 10.5+
- Linux
- Android 2.3+ (early alpha)
- IOS 9+ (early alpha, you need to have ability to run apps outside of the App Store)
- Raspberry Pi
- FreeBSD
- NetBSD
- haiku OS
- Consoles (experimental, the most stable are Switch, Wii, Dreamcast)
- Web browser
