SPEEDRUNNING *nyoooooooooooom*

Curious to know if anybody else here is into playin' games real dang fast

I picked it up for a little bit a few years ago myself, doing some No Major Skips runs of Batman: Arkham Asylum. I stopped shortly after cracking sub-2:00, but I've been thinking about getting back into it and maybe either pushing my Arkham Asylum time down or giving Arkham City a try.

I used to not really be into it, 'cause I didn't really "get it" until I tried it for myself. But I think picking a game I was really familiar with and then trying out some of the tricks for myself helped it click with me. Also picking a category that didn't require learning the really hard tricks. But now I kinda want to try those out!

Anybody else here ever do any speedruns, or got any favourites you want to share?

I've sometimes considered the Sonic Adventure games (any% though, not 100% god) but I suspect I'll get frustrated lol

But it is fun to try and cut time while I'm doing archipelago stuff :3c

Some years back I was converting Hugo's House of Horrors to ZZT (as one does) and had the game focused instead of the ZZT editor and hit a button on the numpad and found out Hugo can walk diagonally.

This was not mentioned in the manual or used in the then current speedrun.

...then I found out that diagonal walking makes it really easy to get out of bounds.

...then I found out the text parser is very easy to manipulate.

The game was always incredibly short, so I spent a bit refining the parser entries and grinding out a run and took my WR.

It's since been beaten by fractions of a second.

I don't speedrun "seriously", but it's fun to use a stopwatch to time how long it takes to play through some short games, or when doing randomizers.

I never got into speedrunning, mostly because I don't have super clean inputs when I play normally and it would be a lot of effort to unlearn that bad habit (yes, I do play fighting games, yes, I did mash out that super).

I have a great respect for speedrunning though and I love watching them, especially very optimized sequencing like something you'd find in Resident Evil games. My favorite though is the recent Crazy Taxi one, just for the sheer overkill on bypassing the licensed music issue:
