It's Critter Time!

1CC means "1 credit clear" and refers to clearing a game without ever reaching a game over or continuing. The name comes from arcades, where you essentially beat the game using 1 credit.

I've only ever done a 1CC of a few games and the mastery that comes from them can be very satisfying. So if this is something you've rarely or never done, let's try and make September our 1CC month!

Here are the rules:

• You don't have to pick the same game as anyone else. We all pick our own games.
• The game can be for any platform, it doesn't have to be an arcade game.
• The game should have a game over state and a lives system.
• You should pick a game you have never 1CC'd before.
• It should be a game you can beat in a single session (no saving/reloading).
• You can pick any difficulty or number of lives available in the game's options or dip-switches (please specify the settings you used if they're non-default).
• The activity ends on September 30.
• You can post a screenshot of your game completion/score, or you can record a video. All up to you, but have something to share in this thread!

Please also use this thread to discuss game picks, or if you need advice or opinions on what game to run. I'm going to be looking at Metal Slug X for the arcade, since I was very close to 1CC'ing it in my college days (the final boss always got me).

Since GRADIUS ORIGINS came out, I've been making a focused effort on getting the clears on these games. Managed to get through Gradius and Salamander. Working on GII right now.

Can't wait to see the progress people are able to make on their games of choosing!

I might try going for Starfighter Sanvein or Mega Man 1
I know I was able to 1CC Bionic Commando (NES) as a teen but those days are long past.

Could also go for the longhaul and do Zelda II (probably Redux) because I do have that game pretty memorized.

The games we're interested in at the moment are kinda "no continues" style games which feels less like a real 1CC but still, we should pick one and try it. Finally get that Spartan X clear...

This month is going to be pretty packed for me so I don't know if I'm going to have time to take part, but sounds like a really fun idea! I'll be rooting you all, and meanwhile maybe I'll try an easier game like GG Aleste and see if I can squeeze it in...

I think Ghouls n Ghosts might be my pick. I think that's the stuff.

Wow, that's some masochism right there!

Luckily I've beaten it before and have many good teachers/examples to use. I think it should be doable

i was talking about it the other day about how i had wanted to try to learn ZeroRanger, so this might be just the excuse to do it...!

Shmups are all I've really been playing lately, haha. I'm aiming to get DDP and Gradius II done before September 30th

Well, I finally got around to 1CC'ing Streets of Rage 1 on hardest earlier this year and dang that felt good. Real satisfying basic beat 'em up tech.

Seems like a fine opportunity to take a stab at something else. If I wanna go back and get revenge on a childhood game I think the biggest shadow looming over me is Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. It's a daunting prospect to 1CC but I think I have the patience and dedication to see it through, so I think maybe that's my pick right now.

Got started on attempts a little early and got repeatedly destroyed by the level 2 bridges of Dai Makaimura. Don't remember having that much trouble with these in the past. This could be a long haul....
