Question regarding the font used for the 1982 theme

Hey there! I was wondering for those of you who use the 1982 theme, how you like the font? As we're starting to use the forum more, I'm finding it's spacing kind of annoying but before I'd change it, I'd like to get all of your opinions on it and if you have any suggestions, I'm very much open to them!

I have to do a double-take whenever I read it, so I switched to the 1996 theme.
I'd prefer something that's easier on the eyes, but fits the 1982 theme.
EDIT: That said, I'm indifferent since I do prefer the 1996 theme anyway.

its fun! but yeah the spacing makes it a little hard to read
i think the hardest part on my eyes is the way that every other line or button is slightly differently subpixel aligned causing some words to appear almost blue instead of black, others appear more bold, etc. see for example:
and obviously this is gonna very from screen to screen, OS to OS
this is a little distracting to my eyes... a different font that has a similar retro feel but is anti-aliased (instead of trying to fight against it... sadly font-smooth css property is Dead...) might work nice?

i hate to say it, since the vibes are impeccable, but i do find it kind of hard to read, sorry. if you can find something retro™ and legible that would be the dream, but nothing comes to mind. i first thought of riscOS, but looking it up, it just used helvetica (or a clone), so...

I recently switched the font family on
my website from the IBM DOS set to the Toshiba Satellite set specifically so it would be easier to read the text in it, and the equivalent 16px-height version is this:
https://int10h.org/oldschool-pc-fonts/f ... basat_8x16
The font pack on that site includes a "PxPlus" version of that font (and others) designed to represent characters not in
the original code page 437 set. I wonder how well that font will work out for this forum?

I'm using
Denjuu World on my own site; it was made for a fan translation of a Game Boy game, and while it's definitely "retro" I'm not sure if it matches the specific vibe. I do think variable width fonts are a must though.

Thanks y'all for the feedback and suggestions. We're looking at the options here to see what we can't do. Ideally we'll get a similar, but better, default font. As well as, given the chance, we'll try and provide alt versions of '82 with non themed fonts too for accessibility ♡

In spite of the theming, I think I'd prefer the option to use system fonts if possible, at least on the actual bodies of posts. The retro monospaced font is cute but not stellar for reading lots of text
