Over on tumblr, there's this really cool blog called One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age that posts every single Geocities site in order. Seeing them as they show up just makes me appreciate... there's a lot of cool websites out there, and I want to talk about them! Let's use this thread to share and talk about cool websites - not just old ones, anything we think is neat. I'll start us off with something I found on that blog the other day.

This really is the classic early pet site - it's got crunchy pet JPEG photos, it's got cat GIFs, it's even got that classic GIF of a cat walking across the page leaving pawprints. I can just feel the excitement someone had to be making all this. They even have a Cat of the Day feature! It's all very cute.

https://www.redhill.net.au/ig.php

Red Hill Guide, one of the most complete archives of old PC hardware I know of. Also a delightfully simple site.

good time for me to learn that tane.us is still around (mind the many flashing colors and fast-moving visuals).

Psst. Hey... Hey you. Yeah, you.

Bet you're looking for some of the good stuff, right? Not just nouns. You want the PRO version. But those prices, am I right?

Yeah, yeah, I got exactly what you need.

The Pro Nouns Keygenderator. (Be sure to enable music in the bottom right of the window)

(Yes, it's more of a goof than a resource, but it always brings me a smile)

Oh wow, that's cute. I love that they're actually playing the cracktro mods right in the browser with a javascript mod player too!

https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/ The Low-tech Magazine. The name is pretty self-explanatory. It's not always up, because the server is self-hosted and solar-powered!
Low-tech Magazine wrote: "Technology has become the idol of our society, but technological progress is—more often than not—aimed at solving problems caused by earlier technical inventions. There is a lot of potential in past and often forgotten knowledge and technologies when it comes to designing a sustainable society. Interesting possibilities arise when we combine old technology with new knowledge and new materials, or when we apply old concepts and traditional knowledge to modern technology."

It has interesting tutorials and resources, some examples: How and Why I Stopped Buying New Laptops, Direct Solar Power: Off-Grid Without Batteries, How to Keep Warm in a Cool House and Leave the Algae Alone, but these are very surface stuff, compared to how much interesting and helpful information you can find there :)

https://neal.fun/ is my favorite little browser game site; Neal drops something new and silly once or twice a year. Highly recommended for 5-10 minutes of goofing off at a time!!!

Also holy cow, this is gorgeous. Only the first page is loading on mobile, but the art is immaculate. I’m gonna have to check this out soon :3
