This is a thread devoted to YouTube's RndStranger's attempt to catalog the PC Engine's library after doing so for the Famicom, the Cassette Vision, and the Super Cassette Vision.

The PC Engine is a fascinating platform, and Random Stranger does a pretty good job showing it off. Let's watch together and learn something about a fascinating, obscure platform!

New Episode - Knight Rider Special

The first time I encountered this system was in the 2000s. Someone gifted me a "256 games on 1 disc" CD that had 200~ Mega Drive games, 30~ PCE games and 20~ DOS games.

I think the first one I played was Dragon's Curse, which was also the first way I experienced Wonder Boy 3.

I've really been appreciating this series, explaining the cultural and/or contemporary context of each game.

Looking forward to when RndStranger covers the first PC Engine Bomberman, which was the first PC Engine game that I was able to play to completion. Granted, thinking back on my playthrough, I can also think about what criticisms might be raised about the game.

Red/Last Alert is a surprisingly good game and I kinda forgot how early it was in the CD Library. For some reason I was expecting it to be a later title...

It's a decent port, but if you're going into the game without having played it, the arcade version is probably a good start.

Huh. I suppose it makes sense, but I hadn't processed how many ports this game received: to the point of being among the most-commonly ported.

Oof, though -- I guess this did its part in contributing to the idea of it being acceptable for police to chase down suspects at all costs.

Also, maybe it's just the graphics close-up -- but my goodness, there's something unusually horizontal about the pixels in this thumbnail screenshot. It seems like it's almost from a C64 game or Sierra AGI game, except with more colors available.

That music, as well: some notes seem quite flat, to the point of dissonance.

Still, I might try seeking out a possible long-play -- unless I can actually look up kanji fast enough by their radicals, and then get a rough idea of what's being said (though I might need still to ask friends who have better knowledge of Japanese vocabulary).
