Lets start a long form YouTube video thread! Figured it might be appreciated since furry spaces are filled with a lot of creatives. If it's one thing I love while drawing or writing, it's a video on my other monitor to babysit my brain lol.

To start off I want to recommend the channel Redlyne, but specifically their exploring dead games playlist.

They basically go around exploring abandoned or nearly abandoned games, a lot of them from the early internet. They have other videos that are similar, but this series specifically seems right up this forum's alley! Redlyne is also never rude or disrespectful to any of the genuine players he comes across, and they seem like an over-all chill guy.



Socpens and brutalmoose both have VHS tape related playlists which might be of interest as well!

here's a guy who can make a video over an hour long about a fridge. you *will* learn about heat pumps and the refrigeration cycle. there's also a multi part video series about a vintage pinball machine and all the logic gates and relays and wires that make it all work

I'm a big fan of Folding Ideas. His "In Search of Flat Earth" video is still one of my favorite ones on YouTube:


His content is usually around an hour long, but there are some that are like 20ish minutes.

Noah Caldwell-Gervais does great long videos analyzing video games. Their length can vary quite a lot, a recent one that i enjoyed a lot about Pacific drive was just 45 minutes, while his video about Fallout was over 9 hours.

ThorHighHeels is the only person I want to listen to talk to video games on youtube. Well, and hbomberguy sometimes.

Not sure how long "long form" is but looks like everyone else I have RSS subscriptions for on youtube either makes shorter (<10 minute) videos or everyone here probably already knows about. Or both. Though I'll also mention Secret Base because their videos actually make sports interesting. And also that's where the new Jon Bois stuff gets posted, of course.

Though when it comes to "stuff to put on in the background", I prefer old motorsports races for that. Good youtube videos deserve my full attention.

My current longform YouTube of choice is The Proper People, a couple of urban explorers (or urbexers, if you're down with the lingo) who've travelled all over the world documenting interesting abandoned buildings.

They have a nice, calm demeanor and editing style, it's kinda like ASMR, but sometimes there's also a blast furnace.

CathodeRayDude is my instant go-to for long form content, I usually put it on when I'm falling asleep but find it so interesting I have to go back the next day and rewatch it from the beginning XD

I just finished his latest release on the origin of the ATX power supply and wow was it fascinating

Monotonal Lizard is one of my recent favorites. Extremely charismatic and a tendency to meet even the most dire games out there with the circumstances of their development and context of their releases. You'll like them if you're looking for talk about older "bad" games that go beyond "game bad, lol"

IdolismJ talks a lot about fighty games and similar genres. They did a really good video on the specific ways the HOTD1 remake fails

Oh right I forgot about BobbyBroccoli. He took Jon Bois' visual style and started doing it in blender. But also makes some good videos.

Seconding Noah C-G. I really enjoy his cosy university professor type of narration, makes such a difference from all the noise and volume of so many other Youtubers. His analysis can sometimes get really stuck in very small, particular details, but he talks through those points in a manner that not only makes it clear where he's coming from but makes it all the more personal. One of the few YTers where I drop everything in my queue to begin watching the video whenever he publishes something.

I greatly enjoy Flawed Peacock's videos.

He tends to do deep dive on indie games that have a lot to analyze. Definitely has his own vibes (along with skits!), and it's nice to see someone actively going through the process of theory crafting, and digging down into symbolism. No surface level readings here.

He's currently in the middle of a Rusty Lake/Cube Escape series!

I always admire Jimmy McGee's passion in his topics but can understand if folks find his voice discouraging, although I particularly like his flat tone and dry humor and can listen for hours. Most people, including myself, found him from the video about how horrendous AI is that took off and was way ahead of it's time, but I strongly recommend these as well sequentially:

I think my favorite channel for this kind of content comes from the channel NeverKnowsBest. Really long in-depth videos going into the history of games or analysis or retrospectives of a given game or franchise. My recommendations are the Final Fantasy Retrospective and History of Video Games videos if you have 6 hours to kill, or History of RPGs which is his most popular video and only comes in at under 3 hours.

I usually watch a lot of video essays on different artists, games and movies. But my most watched long form content is honestly those bird watching videos you put on to entertain pets as I really like using them as background noise >.>;;

That said I have a couple of good long videos from my favourites that I think are worth a watch! It's a pretty mixed variety, but I do think they are all worth the time if you think they sound slightly interesting!

^ Super interesting documentary about the making of one of the most influential video games of the late 90s


^ A good breakdown of the story writing of Bastion. Warning for spoilers for the game though!


^ A good video essay that touches on neurodivergancy, queerness and general deviancy in the furry fandom


^ A complete fan recreation of one of my favourite movies, featuring cameos from a lot of big named actors!

I absolutely loved his videos on Home Safety Hotline and Signalis

One that I'm loving right now is SBU English Club, they'll read just about anything and treat it like they're in an actual book club. Giving critique and always finding something about a book they liked even if the rest of it is unsalvagable. They'll read just about anything too, their video on Sonic Highschool was a trip.



MLYP also recently put out a historical video on the topic of that time some SomethingAwful users got a hold of soviet benzos

Wake up team, Majuular just dropped the latest of his incredible ongoing Ultima series (double-featuring as the history of Origin) deep-dive. This series is among the best long-form gaming media on Youtube right now.

Does a 45 minute elaborate shitpost count as longform content?

Primarily does Factorio content, but also occasionally makes videos on games they are passionate about, mostly being incredibly obscure games nobody has heard of before.

Jauwn:
Started out making videos playing and exposing crypto games, and later moved onto the eurojank genre of content. They tried to view the crypto games from the perspective of someone who has no interest in cryptocurrency, and its very enjoyable to see how absolutely dreadful they are as actual games.

Punchy:
Used to speedrun Silent Hill games, now mostly makes videos about very obscure games and/or absolutely terrible games, I will forever have Ancient Roman burned into my mind.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting:
Makes a variety of gaming content, no real consistent theme beyond stuff they find interesting. They do have a passion for incredibly weird things and, in their words, "garbage".

Marsh:
Has a lot of Shin Megami Tensei franchise content, mostly focusing on the weird obscure games of the franchise. They have also made quite a bit of content on obscure horror rpgs, and has a vibe that can be described as "friend showing you a cool thing they found".
