i feel like half the people i've seen in the introductions subforum are people i recognize from cohost... so uh. here's a thread for that. i don't really know what we'd talk about in here!! but i'm just very curious how many more people were formerly on cohost.

A former eggbug fella right here! Funnily enough, I still even have the link to my Cohost account on my carrd as well. XXD

I never used the site as much as I wanted to, especially cause of the buggy mascot it had going on, but it's sad that it went away as it did. ::<

I guess we can hope this could be a new meetup point for many former chosters! ::B

I used to use the site. Had mixed feelings on it, but for anything I can say about it, I can't say it didn't have a real feeling of community there.

I used it, but never really figured out how to use it correctly so I didn't get much out of it. This forum is working out way better.

I tried to get into using cohost for my art and following others, but there was a real culture of interspersing cute animal drawings with treatises on economic policy and ongoing war crimes and it really killed my desire to go there.

I'm pretty sure you recognize me from there but yeah I'm an ex-Cohoster! I have very mixed feelings on it but it's obvious a lot of people cared about it

IMO it makes sense the same people who would use a site like Cohost decided to join a forum. Same sense of freedom-from-social-media. I think I'll enjoy my time on here a lot more

I fell off on Cohost half because it activated my anxiety in a really specific way I've yet to pin down the exact reasons for, but regardless I do miss what the site was trying to do a lot even if it felt kinda doomed from day 1

yep, another friend of eggbug here

still miss that place, it clicked with us in a way basically no social media has done- hell, that few places we've ever been on the internet really did. plus our time there was kinda accidentally a personal golden age for our self-realizations and creativity/ability to create recreationally, which was fun

YEAH LMAO i love that thing. css crimes were never a thing i was ever inclined to figure out but the stuff people put into posts on cohost was bonkers. like the game boy full of blood, for one example

The death of cohost fucked me up in a way I will likely never truly recover from. It was something beautiful that we will likely never have again. The lack of algorithm, the ability to make posts as long as you wanted, imbue them with css, with images, it was a platform that allowed for unique expression only matched in having your own website. I know a lot of people migrated from cohost to Neocities but just writing a simple blog post on your own website requires extra effort for those not so inclined in html. It's a hurdle that I have issues leaping or crossing or whatever the correct term here would be. idk. when cohost died, something inside me died and the world has been a darker place since then.

Yeah, I enjoyed it for what it was! My only real issue was the same I had with the rest of the internet at the time, which was former, and not so former Twitter users constantly throwing shit at the walls and acting pissed off and aggrieved all the fucking time. I wish it lasted longer for that reason alone.

Yeah, miss that Eggbug. The site wasn't perfect and had plenty of issues, but I appreciated what it was going for all the same.
