Is anyone else watching Keiichi Arawi‘s latest project City: The Animation right now? You might be familiar with his previous all-time classic manga/anime Nichijou, and City lands DIRECTLY in that pocket while still feeling fresh and new. KyoAni is back at the helm for animating this show as well, and it’s an absolute visual feast. Just amazing stuff.
I’m tempted to read the manga right now, but I also don’t want to spoil the show… so I miiiiight hold off until the end of the season. But has anyone here read it already? What’s your take on the show’s adaptation of it so far?
Also, how cute is that little cat/dog/rabbit creature???

City: The Animation is so good so far!!
I'll confess that I'm in no way familiar with Nichijou, so I had no idea what to expect going in. The madcap energy, the characters, and the visual style have all been so captivating and delightful, every episode is just a joy to watch.
There's something I can't really articulate about this series. The animation flow, and particularly the use of color, are so unlike anything I've seen in any other anime. It all comes to life, and it's amazing.
I can't wait to see more of it as it airs!

I've been watching this with my girlfriend and its meta and holy shit I can't get over how fun it is, especially with how out of pocket the animation can be with the comedy. City is my first time checking out anything from the mangaka and the animation studio, and honestly, it's making me wanna give Nichijou a shot sometime!

I hadn't watched nichijou until semi-recently, so I knew going-in what to expect. I love skit comedy already, and both nichijou and City both just have amazing bits.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of City, and thankfully I have episodes of nichijou to fill in the gaps.

I've been loving CITY so far! The guy-wearing-a-skirt gag was kinda sketch, but everything else in the show has been absolutely incredible so far.

Oh goodness, both of you need to watch Nichijou if you’re enjoying City so far! It’s extremely similar in tone and structure, and its 26-episode run is (in my opinion) some of the best television ever produced. The manga is also such an immense joy; everything Keiichi Arawi creates has such a warm, affirming tenderness underlying its madcap comedic sensibilities. God, Nichijou is *so good*

I absolutely will watch Nichijou whenever I can get my hands on it - That is a wonderful endorsement, and it sounds absolutely down my alley! Plus, if it's anything like CITY, I'm already excited for SURE.
Also, regarding CITY episode 4: It just keeps getting better. What a fun and lively episode!

Also I totally agree on episode 4 as a whole, so far every episode of this little series has been more or less flawless. Just a delightful little project and I hope to god that it gets renewed — Arawi apparently got so inspired working on the show that he went back and revived the manga, which I am being *so patient* in waiting to read until the season is up!!!

the final collage’s fragments melding into/breaking off each other as characters left certain groups/scenes was stunning.
I feel like I need to watch it at least three more times to fully process it. Truly phenomenal, KyoAni is back in fucking peak form
