I personally didn't get on with Hexen despite really liking Heretic but maybe the remastered version will be a Quake 2 situation where I go from not liking it to be like "ALL TIMER BABY! YEAH! WOO!!"

While we're talking FPS: Daikatana is like, fine. It just has an absolutely abysmal start. You get more than a couple of hours in and its better elements start showing their face a bit more obviously.
i hear they're announcing penis 2 tomorrow....im scared

Daikatana is much improved when you disable your "friends" so they stop getting stuck on terrain, killing you with explosive weapons or dying.

Well, and once you get out of Episode 1, that game really puts its worst foot forward.

everyone knows about Changed at this point and while the actual gameplay of it is kinda like, awful, it's still something i enjoy because somehow the story is still genuinely compelling to me, something about the game just fascinates me and it's not just the funny latex monster shenanigans.

Sonic CD and Chaotix are two of the best classic Sonic games, if not the best classic Sonic games period. They are both excellent tests of skill for people more familiar with classic Sonic gameplay and they both bring lots of unique ideas to the table in every department. I'm convinced that most people who don't like those games either haven't played them beyond the first few levels or are just refusing to meet them where they are and make a genuine effort to learn how those games work.

dead space 3 is my favorite in this series. it isn't objectively the best, but I have fond memories of making all kinds of custom crazy weapon combinations playing coop with friends

I didn't grow up with consoles around, so my first exposure to Sonic was a Windows 95 copy of Sonic CD- I suspect the demo version, because I have no memories of later levels.
I did, however, adore playing that first level, because I triggered the time travel mechanic completely by accident and it blew my mind.

I'll admit, I am not a huge fan of Sonic games, however I have a soft spot for Sonic CD, because it tapped into what I found most alluring in video games (and still to a large degree today)- exploration and wondering what else there could be.

While trudging through the depths of my arcade ROMs, I stumbled upon Spinal Breakers. (Seems it is also an Arcade Archives release)

It's something of a side scrolling light gun (which is controlled by a joystick, and not a light gun) game? It's so interesting. The game itself is plagued by bad encounter design and janky controls/hitboxes, but there's something about it that is just fun in a really funny way?

The main character is named Colonel WAFFLE, you travel through time to fight cyborgs, and you dodge roll everywhere.
