Still absolutely struggling for consistency against Red Aremers. I know what to do, I’m just a mess with the execution still.

I might try going for Starfighter Sanvein or Mega Man 1
I know I was able to 1CC Bionic Commando (NES) as a teen but those days are long past.
Could also go for the longhaul and do Zelda II (probably Redux) because I do have that game pretty memorized.
So I did a test run of Starfighter Sanvein, reset everything to default, and did a test run...and finished it first try (you can't save scores off a continue)
Also, play Starfighter Sanvein, it's got immaculate vibes.

I think LIMBO is a game I might try, by virtue of it having a 1CC achievement I've been neglecting getting? But I'm not sure if I'm misremembering it or not.
It's hard because it requires you to have gotten all the eggs in the 1CC run, which means you need to take risks you normally wouldn't otherwise if you're just trying to reach the ending.
It'll be after I try to rush through my FFV Meteor Run before the 8th, though.

Against my better judgement I've decided I'll 1cc the Windows Touhou game that's eluded me and that's TH15: Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. Done it on Point Device mode but that's not really a mode you can lose in >_>
Fucking Clownpiece
I may be regretting this, OTOH I'm getting to stage 5 with almost max lives so... maybe?????? I may have a chance????????? We'll see how the month goes on

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts progress update:
The only major pain point in my run now comes down to killing the penultimate boss with the stupid goddess bracelet, though after studying speedrun strats, I'm a bit more confident I can get it down.
Red Arremer Aces still give me trouble sometimes, but I'm slowly getting my strats for them locked in.

Got some proof this time. Really high-scoring run too. Experimented with one of the other sub weapons, which led to some sloppy play around the Stage 3 boss especially, but a 1CC is a 1CC!

Ooo, 1CCptember... I might get back into ZeroRanger. There's a lot of key moments I seem to handle well, just need to put it all together in one run.
Also 1cced Blue Revolver a while ago, that climb was pretty satisfying :3

Well I'm back at grinding my game now that my allergies have subsided. I did manage to get through the first three missions of Metal Slug X without dying. Still nowhere near 1CC because after that it's a mess of slowdowns and eaten inputs.

Been thinking that the brain just isn't allowing hardcore GnG play right now so we started plinking away at the much easier and sillier 1CC for Double Dragon (Arcade) today. Got it down to a 4CC and most of those deaths were falling in the water 3 times against the bridge Abobo and then the traps in the final stage. Going to look up some strats there if possible but it should be doable. Doable Dragon

I play Fight'N Rage on occasion and I think it is one of my most enjoyed beat 'em ups. I think this is completely possible on a lower difficulty and I might do that if things don't go well this month to allow me to focus on it, but I decided to try starting at Hardest—I haven't beaten it to unlock Insane yet, and there are some rewards I could get from 1CCing it anyway, so it seemed reasonable.
I got a good bit into it, Ricardo is not a very complex character so it's nice to have my brain off, focusing on grabs and DPing to stay safe and using special as crowd control or combo extensions. One thing I am particularly rusty at are parries which I think will likely be something I need to get the hang of for harder difficulties, they are incredibly rewarding and also the only defensive mechanic in the game outside of abusing invincibility frames. Definitely a lot of practice to go, as the game spikes in difficulty a good deal in the last few stages and it's probably not gonna be good if I can't avoid losing lives unnecessarily until I get there. The game also has multiple routes with some being longer than others—I stuck to the one I usually do casually, but maybe I should do a longer route to make it harder.
I'll post my runs whenever I do them which may be a lot or never, I'm not sure, but I figure I'd push myself to try and participate rather than just continue to watch and lurk without doing anything. I haven't watched a lot of 1CC runs so I don't know what the default is towards skipping cutscenes (I would presume yes, like speedruns? How many beat 'em ups even have cutscenes?) but I left them in case whoever's watching hasn't seen them and wants to. Thankfully there are visible bars indicating a cutscene playing so it shouldn't be too difficult to skip them, but I can consider skipping them next time if it's inconvenient to watch.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts status report: Logged a solid 2CC tonight after getting in some good practice killing the penultimate boss with the dumb bracelet. Still using 9 lives on Normal difficulty, but this is big progress. I'm gonna keep my attempts to streaming and while I'm at it I'm gonna try and do the Retro Achievement set for it, which includes 1CC with default lives(3) so I've still got a ways to go!

Bleh. Got hit with Covid (third time now ) so now I'm no longer sure I can make this happen by the end of the month.

The thread will be open after the month is up for anyone who wants to finish wrapping up, at the very least.
On my own progress, I have the first 3 missions of Metal Slug X down deathless. I've gotten save states for the other missions for practice so gonna lock in this weekend.

To avoid a double post, editing this one.
Grinded out the KAIKAN 1CC (Type A). Great game that shows the potential of the Shooting Game Builder engine.
Got a 1-CC on Project S-11 on my first try. Since it was blind, there are parts that are real rough, and the game itself is not one I intend on playing through again, haha. Posting it anyway.

Sadly don't think I'll be able to get my Metal Slug run this time around. Been sadly pretty busy and distracted, but at least I got it to sub-10 credits. So, maybe next year!
But huge congrats to everyone who got a 1CC run in and great job for anyone who's taken part.

Same here. Was not a good month for actually focusing on something like this, but even the attempts were a lot of fun.

I've been playing a ton of old favorites over the course of the month as an excuse to stream more, so although I don't have anything I've done specifically for this thread I'd like to think that this stuff is 1CC September enough to count! I'm in the middle of backing up my vods from this month,
The Ninja Warriors Again - A top favorite of mine. Beat-em-ups are my favorite genre, and though this game is a single-plane one - unique for the genre, and on its face more limited due to having less range of movement - it has immensely refined combat unmatched by basically anything else in the genre. This game is a true exemplar of taut player movesets where every move has a unique purpose and of combat scenarios that require smart crowd control to survive. This clear is only on normal mode; I want to come through and get a hard mode clear again soon too.
Contra III - Best Contra game. Contra is one of my favorite series, second only to Ghosts 'n Goblins for run-and-gun action, and I've been playing all of the classic ones over this last month - I think 3, especially on hard mode as is displayed here, is the perfect marriage between the platforming stages that mix hazards and random enemy spawns in ways that keep you on your toes (as the NES games specialize in), and stages filled with elaborate setpiece minibosses and bosses (like the immediately subsequent games). I've cleared both of the NES games + the GB entry, Hard Corps, and the PS2 Neo Contra this month too, but 3 is the one most worth linking, I think.
Speaking of GnG though, that's one I haven't played this month... I might need to get Ghouls 'n Ghosts cleared again in the next few days.
Alien Soldier - Super-technical action game, and probably the coolest made by Treasure. It's got a really steep learning curve but its tactile weapon-switching, elaborate boss concepts, and immensely detailed mechanics in which everything down to your unwieldy i-frame dash, your parry, ammo management, and health-draining super attack all combine together to make a huge interlocking puzzle make it worth the initial bump.
Also you play as a cool bird.
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - Too hard to pick a singular favorite Castlevania but this one is certainly up there, between its lavish and endlessly-charming presentation (you can definitely tell it's the precursor to Symphony of the Night in this area) and its boss fights, which are probably the coolest and most dynamic in the series. I got close to getting another no-death run in this but wasn't able to quite clinch it.
Assault Suits Valken - A mecha action-platformer, notable for having cinematic setpieces and presentation so incredibly cool it feels like watching a highlight reel of a mecha anime with no sacrifice to playability. The variety within this game's stage design and the excellent feeling of its weighty, mech-simulating movement make it one of the most exciting and memorable action games on SNES.
I got a bunch of other 1CCs over the course of the month but these feel like the ones most worth sharing just by virtue of being of the coolest games.
Enjoyed reading through this thread as well! Random Nom bringing up Fight'n Rage is cool to see; that is a favorite beat-em-up of mine and I want to get a hardest 1CC down sometime for sure, Enbyeon going after Metal Slug X is a worthy endeavor - I sat down and did some grinding with that game a couple years ago, I think it's the coolest Metal Slug - and I gotta congratulate Linzolle on ZeroRanger, I finally got a 2-all on that game earlier in the year and loved going for it. Even if this event ends in the next few days, it'd be cool to see more like it pop up here over time!
