Do we consider Dwarf Fortress to be in the same category? At least its Adventure mode? Because it has some rather wicked fun ideas it plays around with.

(I will also always appreciate the changelogs for these kinds of games, as they often end up being unintentionally hilarious. I remember Dwarf Fortress having a bug that turned guards into criminals if you stabbed them with a stolen sword.)

Games where you make a dungeon are at least cousins of the dungeon crawler, even if they don't have a crawling mechanic involved. Dwarf Fort is the big one, but there's also KeeperRL, Dungeon Keeper which inspired it, and I remember a couple of fun PSP games called Dungeon Maker 1&2 where you had to design a dungeon in specific ways to attract monsters so you could go beat them up.

You move your party as an entire blob. So you have a first person perspective and your entire party is kind of just gathered around immediately behind the camera. Like Wizardry and Etrian.
pkmnjolteon What happens next may shock you.

ooh I always thought it was because all the mobs clump together in blobs as you attack them; perhaps both are true
