Re: Warning: a huge battleship "shmup thread" is approaching fast (new: Mamoruku ReCurse)
Wow, fascinating. I can't even imagine how they'd do that in a shmup - what's it change?

Re: Warning: a huge battleship "shmup thread" is approaching fast (new: Mamoruku ReCurse)
New month, new shmup release! One of my all-time faves, Mamorukun Curse, is back on modern platforms. This is a walking shooter, so you've got free movement in a 2D overhead view stage, with multiple shot directions and branching pathways - think Elfazar's Hat from UFO 50, or Pocky & Rocky. It ...

Re: 1CC September - Let's Try 1CC'ing a Game!
This month is going to be pretty packed for me so I don't know if I'm going to have time to take part, but sounds like a really fun idea! I'll be rooting you all, and meanwhile maybe I'll try an easier game like GG Aleste and see if I can squeeze it in...

Re: The Obituraries: Remembering Dead Games
I appreciate getting to hear about Lawbreakers from someone who played and liked it! I never played it but I feel like it's one of those games that can easily settle into being a punchline, so it's nice to get another perspective.

Re: Post your podcasts
I'm not a big podcast person, but I've gotten into listening to The Vibe Consultant recently. It's a weekly radio show on Melbourne's 3CR community radio station, and each week is just an hour of the host playing music they love for you. Really interesting stuff, all kinds of styles. Been a great ...

Re: The Classic Mac thread
Haha, yeah, I guess the only real use for dual-booting would be to avoid having separate OS 9 and OS X machines... but my home is filled with OS X Macs, so I don't really need that. The real reason is just that a couple of these late dual-booting machines are the only OS 9 computers with builtin ...

Re: The Classic Mac thread
Ooh, this is a fun thread.
I got my Mac start in the early Mac OS X era; I think my first household Mac was 2002ish. First Mac I got that was mine alone was a 2005 PowerBook G4.
I've got a household slowly building up with various old Macs for various projects, but they're mostly all OS X-era. I ...

Shmups: those games with the spaceships and all the bullets. I love 'em. Do you love them too? Let's talk!
I'd like this thread to be about all kinds of shmups - oldschool Space Invaders-types, Cave games, newschool indie games, let's chat about them all!

is there anyone outside of the US who bought one? i've honestly been interested in picking one up, but it seems like the only place to get one is through the official playdate store. i'm worried the shipping costs to the Netherlands will be insanely high :(

Re: Music Library Software?
I'm still using Music/iTunes, but that's probably out of habit as much as anything. I haven't had the self-hosting itch yet though, and if I did I think I'd be trying out stuff like what Mico's talking about. I will say, for anyone who wants easy wireless syncing to phones, Apple still sells iTunes ...

Philips CD-i - the future is interactive
That's right, I took the guide's provocation as a legit challenge. Let's talk about the Philips CD-i, the world's most poorly-understood gaming system.
Is the CD-i the world's best gaming system? Definitely no. But are the memes about the CD-i overblown? Yeah actually! The CD-i has some genuinely ...

Re: Playdate, that one console with a crank
Anyone who's got one picked up season 2? I've been obsessed with Blippo+ . It's a whole livestreaming network of little mini TV shows that rotate every week, with a bigger overarching plot developing over the course of the whole thing. It's a very cool concept and I'm surprised how well live-action ...
